OpenAgar: Open Source Microbiology
Under development by Brent Bevear, OpenAgar is a natural language microbiology search engine designed for culture media, ingredients and protocols that hopes to slash the time required to access microbiology information. OpenAgar is targeted at researchers, technicians, students and people in developing countries who want to rapidly access necessary material. Drawing inspiration from WolframAlpha, OpenAgar hopes to implement textual processing to determine what you exactly want. Similar to how you can search ‘What is the height of the US President’ on WolframAlpha, OpenAgar will be able to return relevant data when users search ‘I want to differentiate Lactose Fermenters’ or ‘I want to isolate Escherichia coli’
